Project Highlights

Introduction

The Annies Fahmi Initiative (AFI) is proud to present highlights from our portfolio of projects. Each project reflects our commitment to pushing the boundaries of knowledge, addressing critical challenges, and fostering a culture of learning and innovation. Below, we showcase a selection of initiatives that exemplify our work and impact.

Funding Endowment for Kidney Cancer Research

In 2021, AFI allocated a significant endowment of RM 50,000 to support groundbreaking research led by Dr. Saiful Effendi Syafruddin and the team at UMBI-UKM. This project focuses on the epigenetic regulation of kidney cancer, aiming to unlock new therapeutic pathways. Now in its final year, the project has already contributed valuable insights into cancer epigenetics, marking a pivotal step forward in the fight against this disease.

Teroka Sains Book Series Launch

The Teroka Sains series, initiated by Dr. Wan Fahmi Wan Mohamad Nazarie and Dr. Nur Annies Abd Hadi, has successfully published five books aimed at demystifying science for young readers. These publications cover various scientific topics, bringing complex concepts to life through engaging narratives and illustrations. The series has reached thousands of readers nationwide, inspiring the next generation of scientists.

RNA-Sequencing Facilitation and Analysis

AFI collaborates with external laboratories to facilitate RNA-sequencing for researchers across disciplines, while providing expert in-house bioinformatics analysis. This service has enabled numerous projects to advance their understanding of genetic information, leading to breakthroughs in areas ranging from oncology to developmental biology.

Educational Workshops and Seminars

Through our extensive network of educators and scientists, AFI has hosted over 2 workshops and seminars in the past year alone. These events have covered a wide range of topics, from the basics of bioinformatics to the latest in epigenetic research, reaching over 1,000 participants from the academic and public sectors.

Online Learning Platform Development

Recognizing the need for accessible science education, AFI launched an online learning platform featuring courses, lectures, and interactive content. This initiative has provided quality educational materials to over 5,000 users, furthering our mission to make science education accessible to all.
